Mt Ida in Late Autumn

During this hike along the north slope of Mt Ida, lead by Doug Mongerson and John Woods, the Trembling Aspens and Western Larch should be in full colour. We will stop for all interesting birds, mammals and plants! Difficulty rating is DR-2/DR-3; mostly on closed logging roads, with some short scrambling onto logging road from cemetery.

Meet in the Mt Ida (Foothill Road) Cemetery main parking area (1st right after you enter the cemetery at 8 AM). Bring a lunch and water.

Mount Ida, also known as Kela7scen, is a 1,574 m high mountain within the Shuswap Highland. The mountain resembles a defensive palisade and overlooks the city of Salmon Arm from the south.

The mountain has held special importance for inhabitants of the area since time immemorial. “Known to the Secwépemc people as Kela7scen for its unusually coloured rocks, the mountain is considered by Secwepemc people to be sacred ground.”
